Steamboat Springs — Editor’s Note: This story has been changed from its original version, to accurately reflect public relations consultant Kirsten Fedewa’s involvement with The Steamboat Institute.

A nationally known conservative author, TV producer and correspondent will speak about terrorism and the nation’s political climate tonight in Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Institute and the 1773 Club are hosting Scott Wheeler, a military veteran and journalist who now is executive director of The National Republican Trust Political Action Committee and National Investigative Media, a conservative news organization. Wheeler is the author of “Shadow Government: What Obama Doesn’t Want You to Know About His Czars.”

Wheeler’s topic tonight addresses his take on national security issues. His talk is titled, “The Ground Zero Mosque, Probing Attacks and Fourth Generation Warfare: What I Learned While Undercover Inside Hamas.” The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at Sweetwater Grill, 811 Yampa St., and costs $10.

Wheeler said in 2003-04 in Northern Virginia, an acquaintance owned a building used by people who, Wheeler came to think, were involved in fundraising and propaganda for Hamas, the Palestinian Muslim extremist group.

Wheeler said his acquaintance allowed him “unbelievable access” to the suspected Hamas cell, giving Wheeler a firsthand look at its activities.

Throughout a

a career spanning two decades, Wheeler has worked as a counter-terrorism consultant, appeared on numerous TV news programs, and written for national media outlets.

The Steamboat Institute co-founder Jennifer Schubert-Akin said she came into contact with Wheeler through Virginia-based public relations consultant Kirsten Fedewa, who works with Wheeler and is on The Steamboat Institute’s board of directors.

“There is still, as we all know, the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks, and we’ve all heard about the threat of terrorist cells in Denver and other cities,” Schubert-Akin said, referring to Wheeler’s expertise and discussion topic. “I think it’ll be fascinating. It’s some information that people might not have heard before that might directly affect our safety.”
